A research and ideation project that worked with a project partner to redesign, research and ideate the bazaar marketplace experience. A five-step design thinking process was used to drive toward possible solutions. This project was situated in Malaysia and the insights gathered were obtained from behaviors from this cultural setting.
As part of my design thinking training, I took on a workshop to explore how to enhance the bazaar experience. Commerce and merchants play a role in the economical landscape through the public. How could we introduce greater complexity in this space to enrich the landscape and create better access to goods and services?
This was my first project that used design thinking. As a team member, I played a role in ideation, coming up with the persona, and establishing the user journey of the shopping experience concept design phase. The output of our work was more related to service design, as we did not have a physical product.
There were 3 main prototype model experiences that were the virtual fitting room, the cosplay shopping event, and bazaar on wheels which we had summarized in our report. Each of these prototype experiences offered its own strengths and limitations of how potential receipts may react.
Writing this from 2022 I am aware there are some businesses currently that have used the bazaar on wheels models in how their businesses are run, which given that this project was conducted in 2014 I believe we had arrived at some good jump points for invigorating the bazaar experience.
